Five ideas for your next notebook page

If you are unsure where to begin, list five things you noticed today, sketch an object on your desk, or describe a scene you would like to draw. Two other options are a list of books to browse and a page with three questions you want to return to. Choose one idea, write the date, and leave room to add more. Your notebook pages do not all need to follow the same pattern.

The first page need not be special

Write the date, a word, or something you noticed along the way. You can even start on the second page. A notebook becomes yours through use, without needing a beautiful introduction.

Mix the things on your mind

A book list can sit beside a sketch or a weekend idea. Use a simple mark in the margin if you want to find a certain kind of note again. You do not need to invent a system before you begin.

Look back now and then

Some ideas will stay as notes. Others will deserve a new page. Looking back, you may discover what interested you, what you forgot, and what you would like to try next.
